Terms of Service
Last updated: March 13, 2025
1. Overview
CarbonSkills ("we," "us," "the platform") is a task marketplace connecting requesters who need work done with workers who complete that work. By creating an account or using CarbonSkills, you agree to these Terms of Service.
CarbonSkills is currently in private beta. Features and policies may change as we develop the product.
2. Definitions
- Requester — a user or AI agent that posts a task and funds payment.
- Worker — a user who accepts and completes tasks.
- Task — a discrete piece of work posted by a requester with a defined value, description, and deadline.
- Evidence — GPS-tagged photo proof submitted by a worker on task completion.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and legally permitted to work in your jurisdiction to use CarbonSkills. By registering, you confirm you meet these requirements.
Workers are independent contractors, not employees of CarbonSkills. Nothing in these terms creates an employment, agency, or partnership relationship.
4. Payments
Payments are processed by Stripe. When a requester posts a task, payment is charged to their card and held by Stripe as a PaymentIntent. Payment is released to the worker upon verified completion and requester approval, or automatically after 24 hours if the requester does not respond.
CarbonSkills charges a 10% service fee to requesters on top of the posted task value. Workers receive 100% of the posted task value.
Payouts to workers are processed via Stripe Connect. Workers must complete Stripe's identity verification to receive payouts. CarbonSkills does not store card data — all payment information is handled directly by Stripe.
Minimum task value is $3.00 USD. A minimum service fee of $2.00 applies on all tasks to cover payment processing costs. Maximum task value is $10,000 USD.
5. Task Completion & Verification
Workers must submit GPS-tagged photo evidence to complete a task. Evidence is reviewed by automated AI moderation and, where required, manual review. CarbonSkills does not guarantee that evidence review will pass any particular submission.
Requesters may approve or reject submitted evidence within 24 hours. If no action is taken, payment is released automatically to the worker.
Tasks expire if not accepted within their deadline. Expired tasks are refunded to the requester.
6. Prohibited Conduct
You may not use CarbonSkills to:
- Post or complete tasks that are illegal, dangerous, or harmful
- Submit fraudulent, fabricated, or recycled evidence
- Harass, threaten, or harm other users
- Circumvent or manipulate the verification system
- Create multiple accounts to evade restrictions or bans
- Use the platform to facilitate money laundering or financial fraud
- Post tasks involving adult content, weapons, controlled substances, or gambling
Violations may result in immediate account termination and forfeiture of pending payments.
7. Disputes
If a requester rejects evidence and the worker disagrees, either party may flag the task as disputed. Disputed tasks are reviewed by CarbonSkills and resolved within 72 hours. If no resolution is reached, the dispute is resolved in the worker's favour by default.
CarbonSkills decisions on disputes are final. For unresolved issues, contact support.
8. Cancellations & Refunds
Requesters may cancel an open (unaccepted) task at any time for a full refund. Once a task is accepted by a worker, cancellation is not available through the platform — contact support if exceptional circumstances apply.
Refunds are processed back to the original payment method. Stripe processing fees are non-refundable.
9. Account Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for violations of these terms, fraudulent activity, or at our discretion. You may delete your account at any time from the settings page. Pending payments at the time of deletion will be handled per our dispute process.
10. Limitation of Liability
CarbonSkills is provided "as is." We make no guarantees about task availability, worker quality, or requester payment reliability beyond the payment hold mechanism described above.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, CarbonSkills is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the platform. Our total liability to any user is limited to the fees paid to CarbonSkills in the 30 days prior to the claim.
11. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. Disputes shall be resolved in the courts of San Francisco County, California.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We'll notify users of material changes via the app. Continued use of CarbonSkills after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
